What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a therapeutic modality using the scent of essential oils. Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment of caring for the bodymind with fragrant botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender and peppermint. When inhaled, essential oils influence the brain and nervous system through stimulation of the olfactory nerves.
What is an Essential Oil?
Plants contain complex and powerful substances known as essential oils. These are aromatic liquids derived from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds with distinctive therapeutic, psychological and physiological properties. Essential oils have antiseptic properties; some are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant. Other benefits of essential oils are their stimulation, relaxation, digestive, and diuretic properties.
